The Xhosa people are descended from a clan of the Nguni. Traditionally they were herders and farmers although today they are involved in a wide range of activities and livelihoods.
They live primarily in the Eastern Cape area of South Africa.
The Xhosa culture (and Nguni culture as a whole) has borrowed from
the Khoisan culture and language. The Xhosa people speak a language called "Xhosa"
which is known as a "click" language, having three basic clicks,
borrowed from the Khoisan languages. Please note that on all images featured, the quality you see on screen is
greatly reduced for viewing purposes and not the actual quality of the print.
